Data Recovery Freeware, Your online source to recover your data or deleted files

Data recovery is the process of restoring data from corrupted, damaged, failed or inaccessible storage media. Often the data are being salvaged from storage media formats such as hard disk drive, storage tapes, CDs, DVDs, RAID, and other electronics. This can be due to physical damage to the storage device or logical damage to the file system that prevents it from being mounted by the host operating system. Although there is some confusion as to the term, data recovery can also be the process of retrieving and securing deleted files from a storage media for forensic purposes or spying

On this website related to Data Recovery, we'll try to review some data recovery tools and give you an exhaustive list of the best data recovery freeware (but also some data recovery shareware, mainly in the Ipod Data Recovery section as there's no real Ipod Data Recovery Freeware for the moment), We'll give you some tips about data recovery, data backup and even about deleting file. We hope you'll find this website useful and don't hesitate to post your question about any kind of data recovery or data loss

Data Recovery Freeware - TestDisk

TestDisk is a powerful data recovery software! It was originally designed to assist in the recovery of lost partitions, repair corrupted partition table when these symptoms were caused by defective software, some types of viruses or human error (such as accidental erasure from the Table of Scores).
The interface is minimal (DOS) and you must be familiar with the situation. He does not need installation, and it will already be excavated in a directory to find. Exe to run. Note there are a large amount of documentation in HTML and it comes with photoRec to retrieve photos erased memories (works even on DD)

For the moment Vista is not yet supported.

How to permanently delete files.

permanently delete files
When Windows deletes a file, it's not really erased physically on the hard disk. This way of managing files allows for example to retrieve a deleted file.

Sure Delete allows you to delete a file physically writing null data in place of the data from the file that makes it impossible to recover.
This software can also remove the hard drive erased all data that may be still present.

Data Recovery - Things to avoid when you want to recovery a file

A file is definitely deleted only when the physical part of the disk was reassigned to the registration of other data. This is why, after an accidental erasure of a file, you must not:

* Add files, try the slightest movement of file or other manipulations that may use clusters formerly allocated to your deceased roster;
* Installing software recovery after deletion of data. To do so, they must be put in place before a disaster happening, since their installation might make your data permanently unrecoverable (unless they were recorded on a hard disk system-independent, on a second partition, a disc external drive or removable media);
* Defragment your hard drive after the loss of a file. While many of you saw this feature of Windows a chance to remedy the erosion of performances, please keep in mind that this program was changing the location of different blocks (principle), dramatically increasing the chances of erasing finally lost a file;
* Wait too long before attempting a recovery because more minutes pass, the more likely is great to see the allocation of units, previously devoted to your file, to be reallocated to another cause.

Finally, if possible, try to work on a different partition from that used by the system, which allows you to isolate the blocks to recover perpetual changes that take place on the unit where your system is' exploitation.

Data Recovery Freeware - CD recovery toolbox

We often talk about data recovery software for hard drives or usb keys, memory cards, let talk about a CD/DVD recovery tool...

CD recovery toolbox works on CD, DVD, and next-generation optical discs (DVDs hd, blu-ray), and the files of more than 4 gigabytes (limitation filesystem). The software checks the available disk space before you start the recovery operation (it is possible to choose files in particular, not the entire hard disk).

Data Recovery on MacOS

Data Recovery Mac OS

Data rescue is an application that can retrieve information from your hard drive in case of problems or failure of your disk.

It is the perfect tool to trace the lost volumes of Mac. It finds files and folders from hard drives, floppy or removable cartridges failed. Unlike other utilities, it can retrieve files, icons, dates, directories and even complete structures or the folder hierarchy. The data retrieved are stored on a different media and does not alter the original disc.

Recover your lost data or deleted file using Linux with PhotoRec

This article will explain how to use PhotoRec, a French software specialized in data recovery. Also note that it is also available for Windows.

1. First step

Most file systems won’t really delete your data. They generally expect to have new instructions to replace the space that was allocated to the file.

Your first impulse will be placed to remove the partition and then put it back in read-only mode. So we will increase the chances of recovery.

Therefore be used commands like:

Umount / dev/sda3
Mount-r / dev/sda3 / home

2. Installing PhotoRec

Distributed under the GNU General Public License, PhotoRec supports most file systems (FAT, NTFS, EXT2 / 3 ...). It should be noted that the latter is included in the package Testdisk.

To install, therefore, will be launched the following command to a distribution based rpm (Fedora, CentOS, RedHat ...):

Yum install testdisk

Or this command to a distribution based on Debian (Ubuntu, Debian ...):

Apt-get install testdisk

3. Using PhotoRec

PhotoRec Launch:

Photorec

And choose the hard disk concerned:

Select a media (use Arrow keys, then press Enter):
Disk / dev / sda - 20 GB / 18 GiB
Disk / dev / sdb - 250 GB / 233 GiB

Then type associated system (utility manages even game consoles Xbox):

Please select the partition table type, press Enter when done.
[Intel] Intel / PC partition
[Mac] Apple partition map
[None] No partitioned media
[Sun] Sun Solaris partition
[XBox] XBox partition

And the partition you want and its filesystem:

To recover lost files, PhotoRec need to know the type where the filesystem
File were stored:
[EXT2/EXT3] filesystem EXT2/EXT3
[Other] FAT / NTFS / HFS + / ReiserFS / ...

The final step will be to choose a folder will be stored where all the recovered files. It is also advisable to use another partition that contains the data to be recovered.

It will then begin the process of recovery, displaying something like this:

Pass 1 - Reading 1482914/16322040 sector, 588 files found
Elapsed time 0h00m22s - Estimated time for achievement 0h03m40
TXT: 33669 recovered
IPF: 248 recovered
PNG: 209 recovered
JPG: 197 recovered
TX?: 70 recovered
GZ: 42 recovered
MP3: 11 recovered
ZIP: 11 recovered
SWF: 5 recovered
BMP: 3 recovered
Others: 5 recovered

4. After recovering

The problem is that now finds himself with a lot of files named recup_dir.1, recup_dir.2 ... Containing all of a multitude of different files with the extensions.

It will then use different commands to be able to eventually find the files erased.

Here are some examples of commands:

-- Find all the MP3 files: find recup_dir .*-name "*. mp3"
-- Find all files of more than 100 mo: find recup_dir .*-size +100 M
-- Find all files containing the string "Tux-planet": grep-R "Tux-planet" recup_dir .*

Another solution might be to sort the files according to their extension, using this script:

#! / Bin / bash
For i in `find. - Type f `
Do
If [-f $ i]; then
Dir = $ (echo $ i awk-F '. "' (Print $ 3) ')
Mkdir-p "$ dir" & & mv "$ i" "$ dir"
Fi
Done

Whether we use like this:

Chmod 755 tri-file-extension.sh
. / Tri-file-extension.sh

In short, a little craft as a method, but it is still better than nothing.

Data Recovery Freeware - Undelete Plus

Data Recovery
Undelete Plus is a free data recovery software.

With it, you can pick the files you have accidentally deleted, and even if they were deleted from the trash. The software has a search function very quickly and efficiently as well as a particularly intuitive interface. The latter also offers extensive information about the nature of the file you recover: type, size, location, etc…
Undelete Plus supports many file systems: FAT12/16/32, NTFS and multimedia support: SD Card, CompactFlash, etc.…

Compatible with Windows 95 to XP, the data recovery freeware Undelete Plus proves to be very useful if you want to retrieve an important file.

Data Recovery - Presentation of RAID technology

The RAID technology (an acronym for Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks, sometimes Redundant Array of Independent Disks, translate Ensemble redundant independent disks) can be a storage unit from multiple disks. The unit thus created (called cluster) has a great fault tolerance (high availability), or a greater capacity / writing speed. The distribution of data across multiple disk drives makes it possible to increase the safety and reliability of services.

This technology was developed in 1987 by three researchers (Patterson, Gibson and Katz) at the University of California (Berkeley). Since 1992 it is the RAID Advisory Board, which manages these specifications. It is to form a big disk capacity (and therefore costly) using smaller inexpensive disks (ie including MTBF, Mean Time Between Failure, or the average time between failures is low ).

The discs assembled as RAID technology can be used in different ways, called RAID levels. The University of California has defined 5, which were added levels 0 and 6. Each of them described the way in which data is spread over discs:

* Level 0: called striping
* Level 1: called mirroring, shadowing or duplexing
* Level 2: called striping with parity (obsolete)
* Level 3: called disk array with bit-interleaved data
* Level 4: called disk array with block-interleaved data
* Level 5: called disk array with block-interleaved parity distributed
* Level 6: called disk array with block-interleaved parity distributed

Each of these levels is a way of using the cluster, depending:

* Performance
* Costs
* Disk accesses

DATA Recovery with RAID1

Level 1 is designed to duplicate information to be stored on multiple disks, we talk so mirroring, or shadowing to describe this process.

This provides greater data security, because if one of the disks fails, the data is stored on another, So it can be very useful if you have to recover your Data. On the other hand, reading can be much faster when the two discs are functioning. Finally, given that each disc has its own controller, the server can continue to operate even when one of the disks fails, as well as a truck can continue to run if one of its tires crève because he a number on each axle ...

In return RAID1 technology is very expensive since only half the storage capacity is actually used.

What is data recovery?

Data recovery software has multiple motivations: the most common range from inadvertent human error, viruses or Police investigation. For example, in the Clearstream affair in France, a portion of the survey was based on data retrieved from the computer of General Rondeau.

The principle of data recovery is as follows: in general, operating systems cut all resources into pieces which they access through index. Thus, very roughly, an operating system, sees a hard drive like an encyclopedia, and the system will use the table of contents of the encyclopedia to quickly access a particular article according to the demands of the users. When the user requests the operating system to erase a structure (a file or a partition, for example), the operating system does not destroy the structure directly concerned. It merely changing the index. Thus, in the metaphor of the encyclopedia, ask the operating system to delete an item, the equivalent of removing the item from the table of contents. The article dropped, even if not included in the table of contents, however, is always there in the middle of the pages of the encyclopedia.

Data Recovery is a difficult task. Indeed, in the presence of backups - whether copies stored in the dustbin of Windows or any tool System Restore, it is beyond the scope of data recovery. In addition, operating systems are primarily designed to use resources effectively to ensure good performance. For example, the user can request the free space to the operating system (to add a new article in the encyclopedia, for example). In this case, the operating system can give pages corresponding to the item deleted the user wants to write a new article. As operating systems are designed primarily to ensure good performance, data recovery is at best an afterthought. It is significant that from version 5, the late MS-DOS provides two tools for data recovery ( "undelete" and "unformat"). Both tools were included in version 6 but were abandoned to the launch of Microsoft Windows 95.

Data Recovery Tools - A good free data recovery Tool

It's always hard to find a good freeware that suit our need, it's even more difficult when we search a data recovery tool, One day I came accross Undelete Plus , this free data recovery enables you to undelete files that have been emptied from the recycle bin. Undelete Plus quickly scans a specified drive and show you a list of files that can be recovered, along with the status for each file (very good, good, bad etc.) indicating the likeliness of complete recovery. Undelete Plus automatically sorts the files based on file type and folder, making it easy to find specific files, and you can also apply a filter to search for a specific file.

Data Recovery Tools - My favourite Data recovery tool

Hello all, First post on http://data-recovery-data-recovery.blogspot.com/ , Like me (and many other computer users) you probably lost or deleted some file you wanted to recover and I'll try to talk about every thing you might try to recover your deleted files.

Always keep in mind that data recovery is never unfeasible, even in the worst circumstances. But to prevent to any data loss, make sure to take to basics precautions. A Hard Drive has a limited life, start to backup your data on CDR/CDRW on a regular basis, that's the best way to be sure sure that your data will not be lost.

Even if you get a virus on your computer, data recovery is possible. but again, installing a free antivirus (Avira, AVG, Avast....) is a good precaution to avoid a data loss

But loosing data can happen and as you probably know, it's difficult to find a good data recovery tool, one of my favourite tool is Get Data Back, I succeed to recover many files I thought I'd lost forever, even is it's not a Freeware, I tought it's good enough to be mentioned on this blog dedicated to the Data Recovery.

I'll try to cover some free solution tomorrow...
